Work Experience at Frimley Health

At Frimley Health, we offer a comprehensive work experience programme that combines online learning with face-to-face placements. All prospective applicants are required to complete our Online Work Related Learning Programme (OWRLP) before arranging an in-person placement. This foundation course provides essential knowledge and insight into different roles within the NHS with a certificate available on completion. Please refer to the Work Experience Flow Chart, which outlines each step of the application and placement process in detail.

General Work Experience

Our standard work experience programme is observational and takes place during set weeks throughout the year. It is designed to support students aspiring to careers in non-medical roles.

Aspiring medical students should note that the general work experience team cannot accommodate requests for medical-related placements.

To apply for general work experience, please email the Work Experience team at fhft.workexperience@nhs.net. Be sure to include the following details in your email:

- Full Name
- Age (including Date of Birth)
- Home Postcode
- School
- Specific Area of Interest/Department within the hospital

Medical Work Experience

This programme is available for sixth-form students (16+) who plan to pursue medical school. It typically involves shadowing doctors in their day-to-day duties.

The medical work experience teams at Frimley Park Hospital & Wexham Park Hospital are currently closed to new applications for the medical observer work experience programme for sixth form students.

We will update on this site when the programme re-opens to applications.

For more information on alternatives to the in person programme, you can contact the team at fhft.workexperience@nhs.net

Age Restrictions

- 14 years old and above: Eligible for work experience in administration and non-patient-facing areas only.

- 16 years old and above: Eligible for clinical areas, with some restrictions.

- 17 years old and above: Eligible to join theatre teams.

- 18 years old and above: Eligible for placements within maternity teams.

If you are under 18 years old, parent or teacher consent is required. Please note that while we strive to accommodate all placement requests, this may not always be possible due to operational reasons.

Single Placement Policy

To ensure we are able to provide as many opportunities as possible, we operate a strict one placement per student policy. We regret that we are unable to offer further placements in additional areas or at alternative sites if you have previously attended a work experience placement.
